In 2008, Salcomp and its biggest shareholder, the Swedish company Nordstjernan, started together with Hand in Hand, a Public Charitable Trust, a corporate social responsibility project in India in the Tamil Nadu state. It is the same state where Salcomp’s Indian plant is located. Vocational training and basic knowledge related to work life are given to over 2,000 people through the cooperation project. In addition, environmental technologies, sanitation equipment and health services are provided to cooperation villages. In 2009, the focus was on training, as well as collaborating with the cooperation villages on sanitation and renovating public health centers. The vocational training aims to help people employ themselves. For many people in villages this has succeeded very well: they earn their living as mobile phone repairers, maintenance men and beauticians, among others. Hand in Hand is a Public Charitable Trust which commenced its operation in 1988 in the Kancheepuram District, is present in 13 districts in Tamil Nadu and now has a global presence. The organization has an unblemished record in integrated community development activities. Hand in Hand has an initial focus on child labor elimination, education, and the empowerment of women. Salcomp’s and Nordstjernan’s joint CSR project was formally inaugurated on 15 April 2008. The function was organized in the Kolathur village within a distance of around 7 kilometers from the Salcomp Sriperumbudur facility. Kolathur has been chosen for the implementation of environmental pillar of the CSR activities, whereby the village will be converted into a 100% green village within a 24-month period. |  The official inauguration of the CSR project was conducted within the premises of a primary school in the Kolathur village.
 Mr Hemantha Pamarthy, CEO of Hand in Hand organization (left) and Mr Markku Hangasjärvi, Salcomp’s President and CEO, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Salcomp and Hand in Hand during the inauguration.
 The school children performed some traditional Indian folk dances in the inauguration.
 Aslam Basha is 20 years old and lives in Walajabad in Tamil Nadu. He works as a mobile phone repairer thanks to the vocational training arranged by Salcomp and the Hand in Hand organization.
