The most essential aspect for Salcomp’s business is the development in the mobile phone market. The size of the mobile phone charger market, calculated by the number of units sold, depends on global mobile phone deliveries, as the charger mainly is a part of the mobile phone package sold to the end customer.
In addition to the mobile phone charger market, Salcomp has a strong position in the combined market of all various chargers: in this market, Salcomp is among the five largest players. Other big power supply manufacturers are the Taiwanese Lite-On Technology and Delta Electronics, Emerson from the USA and the Singapore-based Flextronics, who bought the mobile phone charger business of the German Friwo in 2008.
The total market of all various chargers grew by some 7% in 2008, and it is estimated to decline slightly in 2009. The market of all various chargers is fairly fragmented and contains many small operators. However, the market is consolidating, and evidence to support this is the previously mentioned transfer of the Friwo mobile phone charger business to Flextronics.
